Key Text: 2 Chronicles 20:1-ff; KJV
“1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is Engedi.
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.”
The Judaeans had gotten to a point of utter hopelessness and despair. Great neighbouring countries had decided to take war with them.
Jehoshaphat, after escaping death in Ramoth-gilead in the previous chapters, faced a new challenge—and it was on a larger scale.
And what did he do in turn? He led the whole nation to seek The Face of THE LORD.
Just as the year before has passed us by with all its woes, yet, great and many are the challenges ahead of us. It will not be easy.
But if only we are to say to THE LORD as Jehoshaphat did, “…but our eyes are upon Thee," we will see the redemptive Hand of GOD in this new year.
So whatever the trials that may come our way, let us all humbly remember:
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength [ROCK OF AGES]:”
Isaiah 26:3-4 KJV
And so long as we let GOD, THE GOOD SHEPHERD (Psalm 23:1), be our Guide and rely solely on HIM throughout this year, we will never be put to shame by GOD’S Grace.
