Key Verses:
“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
“And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:”
“but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:”
“for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
—Genesis 3:1-6ff; KJV
An adage of ours says, when two children come out of room all smiling it means one did not tell the truth to the other.
And another says, the bird and fish cannot be friends because they cannot build a house together.
The woman, namely Eve, who was a caretaker of the LORD'S Garden, due to her friendship with the serpent drove her appetite to eat the ‘sweet’.
What ‘Sweet Things’ are we desiring today?
Adam and Eve enjoyed the pleasures of sin and they ended up attracting a death sentence.
Beloved, no matter how anyone tries to rephrase or put it, sin is deadly. And, it robs us of every good thing.
The enjoyment of sin is for a moment but comes with damnable consequences when not repented of.
Moses made a vow, "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;”.
The world's trouble of today is as a result of immorality. Sin is dangerous and we need to flee from it at its very hint of sight.
Let us beware of the ‘sweetness of the world’, because it is a pool of death. The BIBLE tells us that, “the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”
May we not venture into the ‘worldly sweet’ because it tastes good on the outside but is a deadly destructive poison on the inside.
But, let us also remember, there is oil of gladness for all those who flee from it.
Words To Remember: “Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.” — Prov. 20:17
